Highlighting the best of the Hamptons and North Fork summer season encompasses dozens of annual galas, fundraisers, and festivals for couples and families of all ages. The majority of these events take place during the day or on the weekends, with several that span the course of a half or full week. There are also some well known nighttime gala fundraisers that will surely make for a memorable experience!
Below are top ten summer events on the East End to help make the most of your getaway.
The annual Clothesline Art Sale at Guild Hall has been a staple summer event for art enthusiasts for over seventy years in East Hampton. For 75 years, the Clothesline Art Sale has provided accessible artwork to the community, while supporting the local artists who thrive here. Throughout the years, famous artists such as Alfonso Ossorio, James Brooks, John Little, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and Elaine and Willem de Kooning have shared their talents to support Guild Hall in this unique annual fundraising effort. Local and visiting artists are able to take part in the art sale by selling up to three works.
Also to benefit Guild Hall is the Garden as Art Tour, which usually take places annually in late June. The day tour includes some of the most beautiful and eclectic Hamptons gardens. These gardens are designed by a select group of beloved local and world-renowned artists and horticulturalists. The tour commences with a panel discussion, followed by the self-guided tour. The Garden as Art Tour closes with a late afternoon cocktail party at a private estate. Base tickets, or Garden Lover tickets, include the panel discussion and self-guided tour of the five gardens.
The Halyard Summer Guest Chef Series is a new annual summer event on the North Fork that brings guest chefs to The Halyard at Sound View Greenport. Executive Chef Stephan Bogardus partners with award-winning chefs, many of whom are local, on a cookout or exclusive dinner event on Sound View’s private beach. Guest Chefs for the 2021 season are slated to include 3x Food Network Chopped Champ Chef Marc Bynum on Thursday, July 29th at 6pm, and local acclaimed chef and BBQ pit master Matty Bourdeau on Thursday, August 5th at 6pm.
The Hampton Classic Horse Show is a longtime annual Hamptons event that traditionally takes place over the last week of August/the summer season right before Labor Day. The Hampton Classic is one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the United States/ Now well into its fourth decade, The Hampton Classic Horse Show is in a class all its own, and is widely popular for everyone of all ages.
At this week long show, top equestrians from around the world compete for more than $800,000 in prize money. National champion hunter competitors, Olympic medalists, and scores of children and adult amateurs make up the field throughout the event.
In addition to watching world class equestrian sport, event goers enjoy more than 80 onsite boutique shops, a dozen International food stations and food trucks, daily activities in the kids’ play area, and more. Notably, there is Monday’s Animal Adoption Day featuring rescued dogs, cats, and horses looking for their forever home.
Hampton Classic souvenirs, including tee shirts, hats, and accessories, are a great gift idea. Look for their onsite shop nearest to the stadium. Day and weekly passes are available for purchase as are individual and carload tickets.
The Hampton Designer Showhouse is an annual interior design event that usually spans over a month held a private estate in the Hamptons. The Hampton Designer Showhouse 2021 will be held at the historic Wooley House in the Village of Southampton. Originally part of the Wooley Estate in the 1830s, the historic house’s renovation will include over 7,000 square feet expanding on 3 levels with over 23 modern interior spaces. Inside, event guests will find a gourmet chef’s kitchen, indoor/outdoor living, a pool house and more.
Commencing a little bit later than usual, this year’s Designer Showhouse will be open to the public beginning September 19th. The Hampton Designer Showhouse will run through October 31st. A gala preview party is usually incorporated to kick off this annual design event.
The annual Greenport Maritime Festival celebrates the end of the summer season and kicks of the autumn on the East End. The event is hosted by the East End Seaport & Marine Foundation in partnership with the Village of Greenport. Weekend event highlights will include artisan craft and food vendors. Don’t miss the parade on that Saturday featuring the new new Merry Merfolk Boat Float. Additional weekend events and activities will include kayak races, electric boat harbor tours, DJ in the park, pirate-themed children’s activities, and much more.
This year’s event will take place Friday, September 17th to Sunday, September 19th 2021. The Land & Sea Gala is scheduled for September 17th beginning with a VIP admission at 5:30pm. General admission is from 6:30-9:30pm.
The annual Market Art + Design is taking place this season from August 12th to 15th at the Bridgehampton Museum right in the center of town. This is the longest-running art and design fair on the East End. The select VIP preview will take place on the evening of Thursday, August 12th. Public hours begin on August 13th at 11am.
Exhibitors from around the world include Benrimon Fine Art, Mark Borghi, CAM Galeria, MM Fine Art, Sugarlift, Marloe Gallery, Jerald Melberg Gallery, Timothy Yarger Fine Art, and many more. Over 80 galleries will be exhibiting this season. Spend the day touring through the pop up galleries and meeting the artists as well as having the opportunity to purchase their art pieces.
The South Fork Natural History Museum, affectionately known as SoFo, is celebrating their 32nd anniversary gala benefit on Saturday, July 31st beginning with a VIP reception at 6pm. The IP reception will feature tours of the museum and grounds. The culinary-focused summer gala benefits the educational and environmental programs at the museum. Food and beverages featured at the event are catered by local businesses including Amagansett Wine & Spirits, Channing Daughters Winery, Montauk Brewing Co., Elegant Affairs Catering, and Hampton Coffee Company.
The annual Sweet Corn Harvest Festival is hosted and takes place at Harbes Family Farm on Sound Avenue in Mattituck in July each season. This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 17th and 18th, 2021.
The event will host free live music in their courtyard/picnic area both days from 1-5pm. During the festival, explore Harbes Barnyard Adventure that offers plenty of fun for the whole family. Admission includes a Musical Hayride tour of their 100-acre farm, our famous Pig Races, adorable farm animals, and much more. A new addition for the 2021 event is their Canna Bulb Flower Field!
The Farm also hosts a Watermelon Harvest, Tomato Harvest, Peach Harvest and more. Harbes Orchard and Farm also host a variety of fall events including apple picking, and pumpkin and autumn festivals.
Alive on 25 is a popular, free annual event in downtown Riverhead set to take place on select Thursdays throughout the month of July and in mid August. The event offers local craft beverages and wine, live music on multiple stages, artists, street vendors, and activities the whole family can enjoy. The walkable, pop-up festival on main street features restaurant offerings and specials, artist exhibitions, and much more. The event kicks off on Thursday, July 1 with fireworks at 9:15 PM. The additional dates throughout July and August are July 15, 29th, and August 12. The fireworks’ rain date is July 15th, and a rain date for the event is August 19. The event takes place on those days between 5 PM to 9:30 PM.
Time to get crafty! One of Riverhead‘s most exciting summer events is the Cardboard Boat Races. The 11th annual race takes place on Saturday, August 7th. A rain date is scheduled for the following day, Sunday, August 8th. The event takes place along the Peconic riverfront. Participants have the opportunity to race in various categories including the Youth Regatta, Grand National Regatta and more. Prizes are given out four the best spirit, best captain, best constructed, most creative, and more. Registration inspection begins at 9 AM. The race time is set for 11 AM. Online pre-registration is required.
Paddle Battle will take place this year on Saturday, July 31st at Peconic River in Riverhead.The paddle race benefits the NY Marine Rescue Center.
There are two separate races. One is a 2 1/2 mile recreational race, the second is a competitive 5 mile race. There are different categories per race. For instance, categories include recreational kayak, standup paddle boards and more, depending upon the race. Estimated race start times will be given at check-in.
Reflextions is a free, interactive, public art space that is taking place this summer from June-August. Walkable, interactive experience is scheduled for July 17 and August 14. The event kicked off on June 19th in Milton L Burns Park (also known as Grangebel Park) on Peconic Avenue in downtown Riverhead.
The event features assorted elements of light based on artist interpretations and designs. Elements of the light installations include LED, fire, Dayglow, and photoluminescent displays. Each illumination event will include various live performing arts.
The Rites of Spring Music Festival is an annual event that takes place across the north fork and the east end of Long Island. The music festival has quickly become the premier classical and contemporary music festival on the North Fork. In addition to great music, locals and visitors can enjoy a great local food and wine paired with an historic setting and inspiring artist talks.
The next event is set to take place at Borghese Vineyard on Sunday, July 18th.
Get ready for a one-of-a-kind 5K with plenty of colorful fun! Run, walk or stroll through bubbles and throw about plenty of color, creating a super fun, interactive family-friendly experience. Plus, you choose how much you want to run! The event is now a 1K loop that you can run up to five times around. The run is set to take place on Saturday, August 21st in Calverton. There are three wave starting times: 10 AM, 10:15 AM and 10:30 AM. There will also be plenty of food, drinks, and merchandise for purchasing. Early bird registration is through Friday, August 20th. Spectators and festival goers can come to support their runners for free!
