A Journey from Nazi Germany to a Life in Southampton
In her biographical account of a woman coming of age in Germany in the 1930s, Tapestry of my Mother’s Life: Stories, Fragments, and Silences, Malve von Hassell explores her mother’s life under the Nazis and under Soviet occupation in the aftermath of WWII, the process of rebuilding a life in the West, and the impact on the next generation in coming to terms with the shadows of the past. The author’s mother eventually settled in America and made Southampton her home.
