All Aboard! 190 years of the Long Island Railroad

The Long Island Railroad received its first charter in 1834—190 years ago! Just ten years later, the railroad’s Main Line was completed in 1844, connecting Brooklyn to Greenport and deeply transforming life on Long Island. Southampton History Museum has partnered with the Long Island Railroad Museum to recognize these milestones with a special exhibition of objects from our collections.

Join us on Friday, March 8, 5-7 pm for an opening reception and talk presented by Don Fisher, president of the Long Island Railroad Museum, examining the history of the railroad and its revolutionary impact on Long Island’s East End. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but please RSVP.
