Southampton’s Treasured Trees

Arbor day is a special day where we recognize some of our town’s longest standing residents, many of whom have had important jobs in the past. Well before concrete markers, 17^th and 18^th century surveyors used trees, especially white oaks, to mark property boundaries throughout Southampton. Join Town Historian Julie Greene to learn how these trees, called “lop trees” or “boundary marker trees,” were used and where they still exist today.
