Oktoberfest: Reflections Art in the Park

 

Celebrate Oktoberfest during Reflextions Riverhead this Saturday, September 25th (rain date Sunday, September 26th) beginning at 4pm. The event will feature four local craft breweries: Peconic County Brewing, Tradewinds Brewing, North Fork Brewing Co., and Long Ireland Beer Co. 

 

This premiere Oktoberfest event on the East End will feature live music and entertainment from “Who Are Those Guys”, an Americana, country, and folk group from Mattituck. In addition, there will be a Beer Stein Holding Contest, Costume Contest, and German inspired food from Seaside Grill. All are welcome! This is a free family friendly event. 

 

The Reflextions Riverhead event will take place after the Oktoberfest celebration from 8-10pm at Grangebel Park in Downtown Riverhead. Stroll about the park and witness plenty of Instagrammable moments! 

 

Reflextions is an interactive art experience that features an assortment of light, including illuminated sculptures and exhibits. The lighting elements include LED, black light, photo luminescent displays, and even fire! 

Illumination event will include various live performing arts.

Reflextions Riverhead is hosted by the Riverhead Business Improvement District. It is made possible with public funding from Suffolk County and grants from I LOVE NY, Discover Long Island, and East End Tourism Alliance.

 

Riverhead Town Cleanup

 

Come together and help make Riverhead even more beautiful with our morning cleanup. The Riverhead Town Cleanup will take place before Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 25th from 8am-10pm. Supplies for the cleanup can be picked up at Riverhead Town Hall between 8-9am that Saturday.

24th Annual Snapper Tournament

 

The 24th Annual Snapper Tournament will be held Saturday, September 25th from 11am-3pm. Registration begins at 10am. Pre-register by September 24th to guarantee a shirt. Shirts are available to the first 50 registrants. Ages 15 and under are $10, and those ages 16 and up are $20. Hot dogs are available for all registrants. Bring your own bait.

 

East End Arts Gallery Mix Tape Exhibition

 

The Mix Tape exhibition, featuring works by Ernie Paniccioli, Julie Kramer, and Louis Navas will take place from September 25th-November 13th, 2021. The art exhibition will showcase captured moments of the 90’s hip hop, R&B, post-punk, alternative rock, and grunge using photography from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame music historian, Ernie Paniccioli, and veteran WFNX radio disc jockey, Julie Kramer. It will also include in-gallery mixed-genre performances by the East end Arts Rock band. 

 

The opening reception, hosted by Julier Kramer and Mark MK will take place on Saturday, September 25th from 4-8pm. There will be two locations: EEA Main Gallery at 133 E. Main Street, and 11 West Gallery at 11 W. Main Street, both in Riverhead. 

 

The fall gallery hours are Thursdays from 12-5pm, Fridays from 2-7pm, and Saturdays from 12-5pm. 

 

There will also be a Virtual Artist Talk, brought to you by Mark MK on Tuesday, October 19th beginning at 6pm. 

 

Dinner and a Movie Performances at Suffolk Theater

 

Suffolk Theater in Riverhead will host the following show performances over the weekend: Al Di Meola on Friday, September 24th, and Melvin Seals and JGB on Sunday, September 26th. For both events, the doors, bar and restaurant will open at 6:30pm. Both shows will begin at 8pm, respectively.

Sag Harbor American Music Festival

 

The Sag Harbor American Music Festival is an annual, free musical event taking place from Thursday, September 23rd-Sunday, September 26th, 2021. All shows take place outdoors, rain or shine. The festival features a wide variety of local musicians and bands that perform and several different business outlets and public venues throughout Sag Harbor. 

 

Bands and musicians on the schedule include Hopefully Forgiven, Alfredo Merat Trio, Soul Inscribed, Bodega Tall Boys, Nancy Atlas Project, Chloe Halpin, Gene Casey and The Lone Sharks, and Winston Irie & The Selective Security Band. Venues include the Marine Park, Steinbeck Park, Sag Harbor Inn, Baron’s Cove, Sen Restaurant, and Sag Pizza.

The scenic campgrounds across the East End of Long Island include some of the most breathtaking ocean views, hiking trails, and unique wildlife habits. The scenic surroundings capture the beauty and bounty of the region, making it the ideal year-round camping destination.

We highlight the best campgrounds across the North and South Forks as well as all sorts of camp-related activities that will make you feel like a kid again. These include state and town parks, and privately owned camping sites.

North Fork

Cliff and Ed’s Campground, Cutchogue

Cliff and Ed’s Campground, located off of Schoolhouse Road, is a full hookup park for RVs and is ideal for short-term and long-term camping stays. Water, sewage, and electric hookups are available on all sites. Picnic tables are also available for outdoor dining and food prep.

Eastern Long Island Kampground, Greenport

Eastern Long Island Kampground, located on Queen Street in Greenport, is Long Island’s largest private campground. The campsite offers a variety of onsite activities for everyone of all ages including archery, an outdoor swimming pool, a newly renovated recreation center featuring a foosball table, pool table, and much more. 

Glamping tents, RV camping sites, and cabins are available for booking as are can . Reservations well in advance are encouraged.

Indian Island County Park, Riverhead

The 275-acre Indian Island County Park is located off of Route 105 at the estuarine mouth of the Peconic River. Indian Island County Park is connected to the mainland by a causeway composed entirely of white sands. 

This North Fork campground is open to the public year-round. Activities include hiking, fishing, picnicking, bird watching, and an activity field. The Park offers trailer and tent campsites for organized groups, individuals and camping clubs. Restrooms and shower facilities are available onsite.

Peconic River Campground, Calverton

Peconic River Campground is located on River Road in Calverton. Visitors to this rustic North Fork campground enjoy nature walks, canoeing, hiking, and fishing, among other outdoor recreational activities. This pitching tent only campground also includes picnic tables, campfires, and diverse natural areas for walking and exploring. 

There is a $40 minimum per night up to a family of four. Each additional child is $10.

Village of Greenport McCann, Greenport

The McCann’s Campground on Moore’s Lane, about one mile from the waterfront village of Greenport. The camp is most ideal for RVs and trailers, with tenting campgrounds allocated  as well.  Water, sewer, and electricity are available onsite. 

Occupancy is limited to four persons per site. There is a $5 fee per guest per night. Pets must be registered upon entering the campground.

South Fork

Cedar Point County Park, East Hampton

Located in East Hampton’s Northwest Woods, this 600+ acre peninsula campsite boasts views of Gardiners Bay and Shelter Island off in the distance. There is a freshwater lake with a playground, walking trails, and canoe rentals. Popular activities include fishing, rowboating, hiking, and hunting. Perhaps this may be the spot where you try some scuba diving. 

There is a general store on site that offers a snack bar as well as free Saturday night family movies, recreational equipment, and more. This is also a beautiful campsite for hosting private dinners and small events. Open from April until mid-November.

Hither Hills Campground, Montauk

Hither Hills features a stunning two-mile sandy ocean beachfront, and a 40-acre freshwater lake, scenic picnic areas with fireplaces, sport fishing, a playground, and a 190-site campground on the ocean. The campground includes showers, restrooms, and a general store.

The park has a beach open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The camp also features an organized recreation program in the summer. The program includes family movies, folk and line dancing, children’s summer theater, magic shows, and various environmental interpretation programs. Additional activities throughout the year that can be organized include horseback riding, biking, boating, hunting, and wintertime cross-country skiing.

Montauk County Park, Montauk

Montauk County Park offers outer beach access and camping for self-contained trailers with a permit. The park also offers salt and freshwater fishing, hiking, horseback riding with Deep Hollow Ranch, kayaking, canoeing, and more. 

Montauk County Park is open from April to mid November.

Sears Bellows County Park, Hampton Bays

Sears Bellows off Bellows Pond Road is a 979-acre park that offers tent and trailer camping. The camping site has on site showers, and activities that include fishing, hiking, and horseback riding with a permit. The park also features row boat rentals that are offered on Bellows Pond. The park also has a playground, several picnic tables and barbecue grills. This county park is open from April to mid November.

Shinnecock East County Park, Southampton

Shinnecock East County Park is an inlet beach park off of Dune Road in Southampton that offers 100 self-contained camping sites on the outer beach (no tents) and recreation areas. Activities include fishing, swimming, and bird watching. The campsites are available to self-contained campers with a valid Suffolk County Parks Green Key Card.

Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue, Bridgehampton

Amaryllis Farm’s main sanctuary is located on Lumber Lane in Bridgehampton. This non-profit organization provides a safe haven for horses and ponies and offers horsemanship care, and foundational riding lesson workshops. Visiting hours are on Saturdays beginning at 11:15am via reservation, pre-paid in advance. Volunteer opportunities are available for adopters.

Amaryllis also offers a Gentle Pony Camp on Mondays and Fridays for children ages 5-12. Horsemanship and riding workshops are available for children and teens ages 6-14. More workshops are also available throughout the summer and fall.

Deep Hollow Ranch, Montauk

Deep Hollow Ranch off of Montauk Highway is home to a backdrop of thousands of acres of nature preserve, miles of scenic ocean, and miles of stunning trails. Deep Hollow Ranch works closely with many of the local campgrounds to offer horseback riding experiences for everyone of all ages. For example, if visitors are camping on the Montauk County Park property, Deep Hollow Ranch has popular horseback rides available to the beach for park visitors.

Some of the most popular booking options include group or private horsebacking riding tours along the trails and ocean. They also offer a Summer Pony Camp for children ages 7-12. Campers are required to bring their own boots, helmet, jeans, and a snack. Please note that Deep Hollow Ranch only accepts cash or Venmo for horseback riding excursions and lessons.

East End Stables, East Hampton

East End Stables on Oakview Highway in East Hampton’s Northwest Woods is a popular horseback riding center for children and adults looking to perfect their horsemanship. The stables also offers horseback riding lessons year round as well as semi private lessons.

Gray Horse Farm, Bridgehampton

Gray Horse Farm on Hayground Road in Bridgehampton was originally founded in 2001 and offers horseback riding lessons for children and adults as well as a Summer Pony Camp from mid June to August. This Hamptons based camp is for children ages five and up and is scheduled from Tuesday-Friday, 9am-1pm. All riding levels are welcome. Private and semi private lessons are also available, including private lessons after camp hours.

Gray Horse Farm also has horse shows as well as lessons for polo riders. The ponies and horses are also available on long-term leases and for sale. The Farm is open every day of the week, except Wednesday, from 8am-5pm.

Silver Tide Stable, Bridgehampton

Silver Tide Stable on Meadow Court in Bridgehampton specializes in training riders of all ages from hunters and jumpers to those on horseback for the first time. In addition to a range of horseback riding lessons, Silver Tide Stables offers a spacious indoor ring as well as an expansive outdoor area. These are both ideal for year round, all-weather rides.

Their Grand Prix field is adjacent to the outdoor arena. This field is perfect for horseback riding lessons or leisurely rides across the fields to exercise their horses. STS also offers a Pony Camp during the summer months.

Stony Hill Stables, Amagansett

Stony Hill Stables on Town Lane is a popular horseback riding destination for everyone of all ages and experience levels. This stable was founded over fifty years ago and is considered to be one of Long Island’s premier riding facilities.

Stony Hill Stables offers state of the art riding amenities including five indoor and outdoor riding areas, professionally designed jump courses, and grass paddocks. They also have a 21 stall barn and a custom finished tack room.

In addition, they offer Summer Camp that is offered in five-day weekly sessions from 9am-12:30pm, with the option of an extended day program. They offer different camps for different equestrian riding levels and skills. Lastly, Stony Hill Stables offers private horseback riding lessons and boarding/leasing opportunities.

Events

The Hampton Classic

The Hampton Classic Horse Show is a popular, week-long event that takes place annually the week before and including Labor Day weekend in Bridgehampton. It is one of the largest outdoor Horse shows in the United States and the premier destination for equestrians and horse lovers alike. The Hampton Classic traditionally takes place over eight days during the last full week of the Hamptons summer season, ending the Sunday before Labor Day.

In addition to a week-long event of riding competitions, the Classic has plenty of onsite shopping opportunities, food and drink vendors, an interactive petting zoo and play area for children, and much more.

North Fork

Hedgewood Farms, Laurel

Hedgewood Farms on Main Road in Laurel offers English riding lessons as well as boarding, showing, leasing, and camps for all ages and skill levels. The Farm is home to two rings, an indoor and outdoor ring, for year-round riding opportunities. Full-service boarding options are available.

Hedgewood Farms hosts a summer camp during the month of August. Hours for the five-day per week camp are 8:30am-12pm. Camps are limited to ten children per session. Year-round half hour and hour lessons are also available.

Starting just before fall or in mid-September, visit Hedgewood Farms for their ‘FRIYAYS on the Farm’. They host fun barn experiences for children ages five and up from 6-8pm every Friday. The cost is $20 per person for the drop-off program. A packaged snack and beverage will be served. Plenty of activities are scheduled for the fall including a movie night, ice cream social, and Halloween Party.

Highwind Farm, Mattituck

Highwind Farm on Old Main Road in Mattituck is situated on 60 lush acres close to Peconic Bay. The horseback riding farm offers a well-lit indoor ring, heating during the winter, and a round pen with all-weather footing just outside the indoor barn. Highwind Farm is also home to a 24-stall barn, a carpeted tack room, and plenty of riding trails for boarders. For those who wish to perfect their equestrian skills, Highwind Farm offers customized training programs for every rider from beginner to advanced competitor. Year round youth riding programs are scheduled each season as well as multidisciplinary clinics, and a summer and holiday mini-camp.

North Fork Equestrian, Riverhead

North Fork Equestrian off of Roanoke Avenue is a picturesque riding complex home to over 21 acres of farmland and is perfect for everyone of all skill levels, including the casual rider to the Grand Prix athlete. The facility offers an expansive, insulated indoor riding area and several outdoor riding rings. Equestrians can visit year round for riding, lessons, and boarding.

Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue, Baiting Hollow

Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation’s mission is to rescue horses who have been abused, neglected, or unwanted. Their rescue center off of Sound Avenue offers tours and clinics throughout the year. They also offer counseling and support services in tandem with their rescue horses. The rescue center is home to several beautiful, rehabilitated horses, goats, cows, and even a friendly turkey named Larry that has been at the center since birth.

Spirit’s Promise is open Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm by appointment only.
