Vineyards/Farms > Farms/Farmstands
The East End is home to farms that provide year round products including fruits, vegetables, ornamental horticulture products and grape vines galore. Agriculture is Long Island’s largest industry with over $1 billion in revenues annually. Both forks are dotted with family owned farm stands featuring “Grown on Long Island produce”. Many also offer locally grown annuals and perennials from spring through fall.
In addition to fresh produce, enjoy homemade jams, honey and pies at local farm stands and markets. One of the most famous is Brieremere Farms which is known for its freshly baked fruit pies. Better get there early and take yours home warm from the oven!
Most produce stands also offer pick your own peaches, strawberries, apples, pumpkins and other local fruits. Long Island has some of the most diverse variety and selections of apple orchards in New York State; in fact it is the most agriculturally rich area in the entire region. Spend the day in the fresh air and warm sunshine with friends and family at one of these u-pick farms.
Many East End farms have adopted organic practices, and visitors can find a range of options, from beets and berries to spinach and summer squash. Several restaurants incorporate local organic produce into their menus. While here, make sure to dine at one of these spectacular restaurants.
During the fall season, East End farms open their fields for pumpkin picking. Pumpkin picking is an annual family fall tradition. If you’re looking for some of the best u-pick pumpkin farms in New York, visit Long Island’s East End. Many area farms also celebrate the season with spectacular fall festivals, featuring cornfield mazes, hayrides, food, music and more. Fall is also the best time to experience the sweet and succulent taste of roasted corn, a taste of the East End you won’t ever forget!
Then just in time for the holidays, pack everyone in the car and chop down your own Christmas tree at one of the North Fork’s Christmas tree farms.
