Recreation > Hiking

Hiking trails on the North and South Fork offer hiking enthusiasts challenging trails and a nature filled experience. The extensive trail systems on the East End attract hikers from all over New York.

You can enjoy a brisk hike or meander through scenic woods and meadows, up to hilly overlooks and alongside farmland ponds and bays. In addition to the forest of oak, beech, and white pine trees, there are freshwater wetlands and breathtakingly beautiful views of the ocean.

Most of the state and county parks on the East End offer hiking trails for you to explore. However, if you prefer to hike with a group of other enthusiasts then consider joining either the East Hampton or Southampton Trails Preservation Societies on one of their many hikes. These groups offer many types of hikes including scenic hikes, moonlight hikes, historic hikes and exercise hikes, all of which will be lead by knowledgeable guides.

The East End offers exceptional hiking trails all year long.
