Art/Culture > Lighthouses
Eastern Long Island is home to many famous lighthouses including Montauk Point Lighthouse, Horton Point Lighthouse and more then 7 offshore lighthouses including, Long Beach Bar, Orient Point, Plumb Island, Little Gull, Race Rock, North Dumpling and Latimer Reef.
Perhaps one of its most famous lighthouses is Montauk Point Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in New York State. This historic landmark has been part of Long Island’s land and seascape for over 200 years and still serves as an active aid to navigation. It is one of three Long Island lighthouses that permit a climb to the top of the tower, along with Fire Island Lighthouse and Horton Point.
Some lighthouses are accessible to the public while others are accessible via private tours and boat trips.
