Guide to East End Beaches

From the white sandy beaches of the Dune Road Fire Island shore to the rocky coastline of Montauk, the calm Peconic Bay or the Long Island Sound, each beach has its own unique charm and character. The Hamptons and North Fork on Long Island are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, perfect for visiting any time of year.  East End Getaway has curated a comprehensive guide to the beaches of the North and South Forks on Long Island for both residents and visitors.

VILLAGE OF EAST HAMPTON

Parking can be tricky, and you must plan and have a valid parking pass for the beach. Beachgoers should keep in mind specific beach rules they should follow to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. 

A valid East Hampton Village parking permit is required for the following Village beaches: Egypt, Georgica, Main, Two Mile Hollow and Wiborg and must be displayed on your vehicle from May 15th through September 15th.

Local Non-Residents:  $750
Parking permits are available for purchase online only at easthamptonvillage.org starting February 1st. You won’t be able to purchase them by mail or in person. Only 3,100 non-resident permits are available for sale.

Daily permits are only available Monday through Thursday after 1:00 PM after you have secured a parking space (no prepayments and no refunds). These are digital permits only and are linked to your license plate number. Parking will be enforced by a license plate scanner.

Beach Driving
A Town of East Hampton permit is required to drive on the beach. Please call the Town Clerk’s office at 631-324-4142 for information. 
No vehicles are permitted on Village beaches between 9a and 6p from May 15th through September 15th.  It is the responsibility of the driver to know all restrictions governing beach driving. The Village actively patrols beaches and strictly enforces regulations.

SWIMMING IS PROHIBITED IF NO LIFEGUARDS ARE ON DUTY.
Open containers containing alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited on beaches located in East Hampton Village.

Between May 15th and September 15th, dogs and other animals are not allowed on the beach between 9a and 6p daily.  All other times, except for the May 15th to September 15th period each year, dogs must remain on a leash in areas within 300 feet of roads along the beaches

Non-resident visitors may only visit on weekdays. Weekends are reserved for residents only.  Two Mile Hollow Beach has hefty fines if you park without a parking pass.

Most town beaches open year round but only for swimming Memorial Day weekend (only on the weekends until mid-June). All life guarded beaches are then open full time (Sunday through Saturday) mid-June through Labor Day. After Labor Day, some beaches remain open for swimming for the two weekends following Labor Day.

No vehicles are allowed on the beaches 10a – 6p, May 15 – September 15. Other beaches around Montauk require various state or county driving permits.

MATTITUCK 

The beaches of the Mattituck Park District are private beaches for the residents of Mattituck and Laurel and require a permit Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Residents:  $25

Must have a Parking Permit to enter 

Permits are available online and in the office:  11280 Great Peconic Bay Blvd, Mattituck, NY 11952   (Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri from 9.30-3.30; Thurs from 1-5)

Permits can also be purchased at the gate at Veterans Beach starting Memorial Day weekend during beach hours.

SUFFOLK COUNTY

Green Key Cards can be purchased by Suffolk County residents and non-residents to gain access to beaches and to pay reduced fees for park activities.  A separate permit is required for driving on the beach. The Green Key card is also required to access the online reservation system for camping and marina reservations. 

Residents – $30 each and are good for 3 years.

VILLAGE OF EAST HAMPTON

Parking can be tricky, and you must plan and have a valid parking pass for the beach. Beachgoers should keep in mind specific beach rules they should follow to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. 

A valid East Hampton Village parking permit is required for the following Village beaches: Egypt, Georgica, Main, Two Mile Hollow and Wiborg and must be displayed on your vehicle from May 15th through September 15th.

Beach Driving

A Town of East Hampton permit is required to drive on the beach. Please call the Town Clerk’s office at 631-324-4142 for information. 

No vehicles are permitted on Village beaches between 9a and 6p from May 15th through September 15th. 

It is the responsibility of the driver to know all restrictions governing beach driving. The Village actively patrols beaches and strictly enforces regulations.

SUFFOLK COUNTY

Green Key Cards can be purchased by Suffolk County residents and non-residents to gain access to beaches and to pay reduced fees for park activities.  A separate permit is required for driving on the beach. The Green Key card is also required to access the online reservation system for camping and marina reservations. 

Residents – $30 each and are good for 3 years.

Discounted Residents – $15 each and are good for 3 years (Active Military, Auxiliary Police, Cert, Handicapped, Junior (under 18), Seniors,Veterans and Volunteers with the appropriate certifications)

Disabled Veterans –  free

Green Key Cards are sold year-round at the following locations: Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Indian Island, Sears Bellows, Smith Point, West Hills, and the West Sayville Parks Operations Office.

In addition to the above locations, Green Key Cards are sold in-season (Memorial Day-Labor Day) at the following locations: Bergen Point Golf Course, Cedar Point, Cupsogue, Indian Island Golf Course, Montauk, Shinnecock East, Southaven, Timber Point Golf Course, and West Sayville Golf Course.

NEW YORK STATE PARK BEACHES

The Empire Pass is required to access New York State Park Beaches and provides unlimited day-use vehicle entry. Empire Passes are available for the year, multi-year or lifetime. Instead of paying the vehicle use fee on each visit, simply present your season pass and it waives the fee for day use entry.

Available Online Only for immediate use with an additional discount! Simply choose the digital option when you order, and you will receive your digital pass immediately. A QR code will be provided which can be scanned into the NY State Parks Explorer App, and the NYS Wallet AppLeaving New York State Parks. The digital pass is available for the Season Pass, Multi-Year Pass and Lifetime Pass.

Season Empire Pass Card

$80 – scannable pass card that can be shared within a household and not assigned to a specific vehicle.
