The Hamptons International Film Festival is a staple autumn event in the Hamptons. The film festival takes place annually beginning for Thursday evening before Columbus Day weekend and running through that following midweek. This year, the Hamptons Film Festival, or HIFF as it is affectionately called, is scheduled to take place from October 7-13th.
Make the 29th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival seamless and fun by reserving the majority of your time at the theater or out to dinner, rather than scrambling to find parking or stuck in traffic.

Where to Dine
The Hamptons is full of exceptional options for dining. To avoid being late to your film and finding that ideal parking space, dine at a restaurant within walking distance to the theater/venue. In East Hampton, we recommend The 1770 House, Rowdy Hall, and The Palm. Rowdy Hall, in particular, usually offers a dine-in special in conjunction with HIFF. Make your dining reservations in advance and be sure to have your vaccination card handy, just in case.
In Sag Harbor, we would suggest the American Hotel, Tutto il Giorno, and Lulu Kitchen & Bar. In Southampton on your way out east, visit the Southampton Publick House, Sant Ambroeus, and The Village Cheese Shop for a sandwich and soup.
What to Wear
Layers! Comfortable walking shoes are a must, a cropped jacket or tailored coat that can easily fold over the seat. Always keep an umbrella or poncho in your bag as well as a scarf for unexpected weather changes. A shawl or poncho is a great option for staying cozy and warm in the theater and transitions well to dinner afterward.
Parking
In East Hampton, park in the 24-hour lot or the Lumber Lane parking lot. Another option is near the train station or at Guild Hall for their scheduled screenings. You may also park at the church parking lot off of Buell Lane if you don’t mind a brisk walk.
In Sag Harbor, there is a parking lot opposite The Beacon restaurant and one diagonally across from Provisions. In Southampton, you may park for three hours behind the Southampton Arts Center, or behind the shops on Jobs Lane (not one side is 2 hour parking and the other side is long term parking). There is a third parking lot adjacent to Agawam Park.
Pace Your Day
Do not overload your schedule! If you want to focus on seeing the films, we recommend viewing no more than two per day, plus one event/curated talk. Have some time to rest, walk around, and stretch. If you are into fitness, take a class no later than 9:30 am to jumpstart. Eat your meals early, if possible.
Where to Stay
The Baker House 1650 is very beautiful and usually books up rather quickly. They also usually host events in tandem with the festival or events during that same weekend. Mill House Inn and The 1770 House are great choices as is The Maidstone Hotel. These three hotels are within an easy walking distance to the cinema on Main Street.
In Sag Harbor, stay at Baron’s Cove or next door at the Sag Harbor Inn. In Southampton, Southampton Inn, and the 1708 House on Main Street in Southampton Village are two great locations and within walking distance to the theaters.
Transportation
In addition to the regular Hampton Jitney shuttles, Lyft and Uber are available. Carpooling is always smart, especially for efficiency when finding parking. Make sure to note the parking times very carefully. There are select parking lots that offer paid/long-term parking.
Be very careful not to park in any private parking lots as there are also personnel who check the vehicles on a regular basis.
COVID-19 Protocol
Attendees of the Hamptons Film Festival will be required to show proof of vaccination for all in-person events. Event goers will also be required to wear masks over their nose and mouth.
