Strawberry season on the East End of Long Island is one of the most celebrated annual traditions. Long Island strawberries are some of the freshest picks, and visiting the East End farms offers a ton of fun for you and your family. Discover where to pick-your-own strawberries, where to purchase, and learn about the annual strawberry festival and events that take place out east each season.

 

Before you visit, remember to call ahead or check websites/ social media for the times as many of these activities and farm stands are weather dependent and supply is based on availability.   No pets allowed in U-pick fields.

 

Strawberry Season on the North Fork

By the middle of June, the North Fork strawberry crops reach their peak and several farms offer the experience of picking your own quarts. Strawberries are bursting with flavor and are always such a treat to enjoy and share with others. Many locals take this time to purchase strawberries and make their own strawberry jam.

 

Garden of Eve

Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market is located on the North Shore and opens seasonally April – October.  The farm offers a wide variety of U-pick fruits and vegetables besides strawberries; blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, corn and pumpkins. There is an onsite market and brewery plus a wide assortment of children’s activities.  Known for their Garlic Festival each September, Garden of Eve also hosts a wide variety of special events throughout the season.  Visit their website for an updated calendar.

 

Golden Earthworm Organic Farm

Golden Earthworm Organic Farm, located off the beaten bath on Peconic Bay Boulevard, in Riverhead is known for their own freshly harvested, certified organic produce, flowers, farm produced honey, hand-made African market baskets, and much more. The farm has been growing certified organic produce with a focus on their strawberries for the past 27 years.

Their strawberry fields are pristine, certified organic, and no-spray!  In addition to strawberry picking, the farm shop is open to the public June – November.  @goldenearthworm

 

Hodun Farms

Lewin Farms offers a wide selection of strawberries for picking on their 20+ acre farm and for purchasing. Their snack window at the farm stand sells half pints of their own strawberry ice cream and sorbet, as well as cold drinks, popcorn and cider doughnuts. @lewinfarms 

 

Patties Berries and Bunches

In addition to strawberries, this female-owned farm stand offers U-Pick and ready-picked; raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. Sang Lee Farms

Sang Lee Farms in Peconic is a certified organic farm and kitchen. Located on County Road 48, they are sought after for their selection of some of the freshest produce including asparagus, tomatoes, and of course, strawberries. Wickham’s Fruit Farm

Wickham’s Fruit Farm is an historic, bicentennial farm, set near the waters of Peconic Bay. It is one of the largest farms on the North Fork with approximately 300 acres. Wickham’s also has U-pick apples, raspberries, cherries, peaches and pumpkins and sells a wide selection of produce, baked goods, cheeses, jams, preserves, and more. Group tours, hayrides and picnic areas are also available. The farm opens seasonally May – December.

 

Windy Acres Farm

Windy Acres is a 4th generation family owned and run farm offering a variety of U-pick options during the season besides strawberries; raspberries, blueberries,apples, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and pumpkins. For the young at heart, the farm has a corn maze, petting zoo, and horse drawn hay rides.  Windy Acres Farm opens for the season May – November.

The Mattituck Lions Club Strawberry Festival is a beloved annual event tradition for friends and family across the North Fork and Long Island. Guests can enjoy fresh, local strawberries, chocolate covered strawberries, and alcohol-free daiquiris, as well as a variety of games, rides and an international food court. Festival also includes an evening of Fireworks. Note that the Strawberry Festival is rain or shine!

 

Strawberry Season in the Hamptons

While there are no U-pick fields in the Hamptons, the Strawberry season is still a highly sought after treat for locals and visitors. Highlighted below are some farm stands and stores to check out for the juiciest and sweetest local East End strawberries. It is best to call each farm stand or store in advance to become informed of their supply as strawberries tend to sell out rather quickly.

The delicate strawberries at Balsam Farm in East Hampton are never to be missed! Their strawberries are available at their farm stand or at their store in Montauk. The Green Thumb sells a range of local produce and has an extensive selection of potted herbs. Their family owned and operated certified organic farm has an array of strawberries that they grow on their own farm. Food Network Chef and East End locations, Katie Lee Biegel recently exclaimed on her Instagram page that their strawberries are “better than candy”! Ask each farm stand which fruits and vegetables they grow themselves and which they source locally. You may wish to ask if the fruits and vegetables are certified organic, etc.

East End Getaway has curated a guide to the towns across the North and South Forks, highlighting some of the best of what to see, do, and what the insiders know. This information will help you map and plan your next getaway to the East End of Long Island. Today, we take you inside the town of Riverhead.

Brief Overview of Riverhead

The town of Riverhead on the North Fork is located on the mouth of the Peconic River. It contains the following hamlets: Aquebogue, Baiting Hollow, Calverton, and Wading River. Riverhead is located just under two hours away or about 80 miles from New York City.

Riverhead is a great destination for families and couples of all ages looking to tour and visit the vineyards, breweries, restaurants, shops, and array of events held all year long.

Riverhead was founded in 1792 after the American Revolution. At the end of the 20th century, the town of Riverhead saw an influx of Polish immigrants. This eventually led to the creation of Polish Town. There visitors can discover a variety of local small businesses and Polish American restaurants and pubs. This is also where the popular Polish Town Fair is held annually.

Parks and Recreation

Riverhead is also home to four separate beaches which are open year round. These beaches are  Iron Pier, Jamesport Beach, Reeves Beach and Wading River. Each beach offers boating access for residents and visitors alike. Visitors can enjoy activities such as kayaking, swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, and much more. 

On land, find a wide variety of golf courses throughout Riverhead including Indian Island Golf Course, Sandy Pond Golf Course in Riverhead, and Woods at Cherry Creek.

Stotzky Memorial Park on Columbus Avenue in Riverhead is an excellent spot to relax or let out some extra energy in between exploring the region. This particular park is widespread with picnic areas, open fields, a playground, two soccer fields, baseball fields, a dog park, tennis courts, and more. 

As you enter Wading River on North Country Road, sit and watch the resident ducks swim by at the Wading River Duck Ponds. The best time to visit is in the early mornings before 9am or in the late afternoon after 4pm. 

How to Travel to Riverhead

There are several convenient ways to travel to Riverhead. From Manhattan, the most direct and fastest route is by train on the LIRR from Penn Station with a switchover in Ronkonkoma. There is a train station in Riverhead and nearby stations in Speonk, Westhampton, and Hampton Bays on the South Shore/South Fork. There are also bus routes from Manhattan with the Hampton Jitney and their luxury line, the Hampton Ambassador. The Hampton Jitney has both a North and South Fork line, with a preliminary stop in Manorville.

Traveling from Connecticut? The Cross Sound Ferry travels between New London and Orient Point and offers a full, daily timetable schedule.

Places to Go

The town of Riverhead on the North Fork has several notable places of interest for individuals and families of all ages. For those who wish to discover more about local history and culture, visit such sites and attractions as the Railroad Museum of Long Island and the Suffolk County Historical Society and Hallockville Museum Farm.

There are dozens of wineries that stretch across the town of Riverhead. A selection of wineries to discover in Riverhead are Palmer Vineyards, Paumanok Vineyards in Aquebogue, and both Farrm Wine and Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard in Calverton.

Riverhead is also home to such breweries and distilleries as Peconic County Brewing, Tradewinds Brewing, North Fork Brewing Company, Long Ireland Beer Company, übergeek Brewing Company, Jamesport Farm Brewery, Twin Fork Beer Co., Twin Stills Moonshine, Montauk Distilling Co., Riverhead Ciderhouse and Long Island Spirits in Baiting Hollow.

The majority of the breweries and wineries in Riverhead are open year round as well as seven days a week.

A must is stopping at one of the many farm stands across the town of Riverhead. Top picks include Hubbards Farm Stand, Golden Earthworm Organic Farm, Briermere Farms, Breitenbach Farms, Helen’s Greenhouses & Flower Farm, 1760 Homestead Farm, Harbes Orchard, Schmitt’s Farm Stand and Goodale Farms in Aquebogue (Note that most of these farm stands are open seasonally, or through the holiday season).

There is also the indoor East End Food Market in Riverhead. It is open on Fridays between 3-7pm May through October and 9a-1p on Saturdays the end of November through April. The market hosts a wide range of local vendors from across the North Fork.

Specifically for families, places in the town of Riverhead to visit include the Long Island Aquarium, East End Arts, Safari Adventure, Lavender by the Bay Calverton, Roanoke Lavender Farm, Tanger Outlets, Splish Splash Water Park (open Memorial Day to Labor Day), Hallockville Museum Farm, Long Island Science Center, Riverhead Raceway and All Star for bowling and arcade games. 

For entertainment, The Suffolk Theater and Vail-Leavitt Music Hall offer a variety of local and professional performances.

Where to Dine in Riverhead

The town of Riverhead on the North Fork has an abundance of casual and fine dining establishments. Many of these restaurants are family owned and operated, and have been in business for decades. Several of these restaurants are also within walking distance of the businesses throughout the vibrant downtown Riverhead neighborhood.

We divided the following recommended restaurants by hamlet:

Aquebogue

Barrow Food House on Main Road serving home cooked food with produce sourced from the family’s farm down the road.  Amanda and Kyle are a husband and wife chef team who grew up on the North Fork and set out to bring a menu that focuses on handmade fast casual options with the best ingredients. Barrow Food House is closed on Mondays.

Il Giardino Restaurant off of Main Road brings a piece of Sicily to the historic hamlet of Aquebogue. Chef and Owner John Gambino focuses on sourcing fresh seasonal ingredients from the local farms and waters. Their gorgeous garden hosts outdoor dining in the spring, summer and fall months.

Modern Snack Bar is a North Fork landmark that has been around since 1950 and is instantly recognizable with their iconic neon sign. Located right off of Main Road, Modern Snack Bar serves great home cooking with dishes ranging from Soft Shell Crab and Long Island Duck to their famous Lemon Meringue pie.

On The Docks is an American restaurant overlooking the marina on the Peconic River. With breathtaking views of the Lighthouse Marina and Meetinghouse Creek, On The Docks in Aquebogue features an indoor and outdoor bar and live music. The menu features a raw bar and entrees like Horseradish Crusted Salmon and Chicken Francaise. Happy Hour is Tuesday-Friday from 4-7pm.

Baiting Hollow

Cooperage Inn is a popular and quaint country American restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. Live music and events take place all year round on select nights. Dishes to try include Herb Panko Crusted North Fork Blackfish, Paella, Braised Short Rib Stroganoff, and Chicken Pot Pie. Cooperage Inn also has regular rotating specials.

Calverton

Golden Jalapenos is a fun Tex-Mex restaurant on the North Fork that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu includes a variety of breakfast burritos, salads, tacos, enchiladas, Chimichangas, Paellas, and more. The restaurant also features a full bar. Golden Jalapenos also delivers to Calverton, Manorville, Wading River, and Riverhead.

J&R’s Steakhouse has been around for over 20 years and is known for their top quality prime rib, steaks, and seafood. Both indoor and outdoor dining is available. Prix Fixe and Happy Hour menus are available on select nights. In addition to Calverton, J&R’s Steakhouse has locations in central Long Island including Rocky Point, Medford, and Islip.

Riverhead

Jerry and the Mermaid on East Main Street in downtown Riverhead is a family friendly and family-owned seafood restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. Their menu includes a selection of hot and cold appetizers, salads, pastas, and seafood like Cajun Pan Roasted Salmon and Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna. They also have a signature cocktail list as well as a beer and wine list.

Farm Country Kitchen is a new American restaurant set in a rustic refurbished farmhouse on the Peconic River shore. Serving lunch and dinner (closed Tuesdays), Farm Country Kitchen serves a selection of homemade soups, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, salads, and rotating entrée specials. Dinner menu highlights include Island Ciopino, Gnocci Shiitaki, and Crescent Duck.

The Birchwood of Polish Town is a true Polish Town landmark in Riverhead that serves traditional Polish cuisine and American classics. Their generous menu includes a wide variety of seafood, steaks, roasts, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and so much more. The restaurant also hosts an array of events year round for families of all ages.

Stonewalls is located on The Woods Golf Course and serves French American cuisine for lunch and dinner. Dishes on the lunch menu include Mussels, an Open Face Steak Sandwich, and a Spinach Pear Salad. For dinner, try Duck a l’orange, Filet Mignon, Grilled Swordfish, or Chicken Milanese to name a few.

Star Confectionery is located in the heart of downtown RIverhead and has been a staple on the North Fork for generations. Open for breakfast and lunch, Star Confectionery serves milkshakes, pancakes, omelets, French Toast, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, and more. Breakfast is served until 11:30am. Cash only. 

Snowflake Ice Cream Shop on West Main Street in Riverhead serves a wide variety of ice cream as well as novelty items like ice cream sandwiches, sprinkle cones, and dip tops. Just for dogs, Snowflake serves Muttwiches that feature  two Milkbone dog biscuits with premium vanilla ice cream. Open everyday beginning at 10am. 

Dari-Land on RT 25 across from All Star bowling has been open for over 25 years and serves takeout ice cream treats as well as smoothies, special order cakes, and more. Open seven days a week. 

Wading River

Desmond’s Restaurant & Pub at East Wind Long Island is a New American restaurant with Italian influences. They offer a pub menu and dinner menu that is served daily. On Saturdays there is a breakfast buffet, and brunch is served on Sundays. Live music and events rotate monthly. Happy Hour is served Monday-Friday from 4-8pm.

La Plage is an elegant French-American restaurant on the Sound. This romantic dining destination features a full wine list and cocktail menu and serves lunch and dinner. Fresh seafood and produce is caught and brought in daily. Notable dishes include the Gold and Red Beet Salad, Slow-Braised Pork Osso Bucco, and Pan Seared Branzino. 

North Tavern on N Country Road is a family-owned American restaurant that is well known for their fun hometown atmosphere. Dishes to try include everything from Long Stem Artichoke Salad and Grandma’s Pierogi to Pop’s Pot Roast and the Overstuffed Corned Beef Reuben Sandwich. North Tavern is open for dinner Tuesday-Sunday beginning at 4pm. 

Annual Activities in Riverhead

Riverhead is known for hosting a wide selection of annual events that are perfect for everyone to enjoy. These annual events include Alive on 25, Reflextions, and the Cardboard Boat Races

Oktoberfest and Halloween is another popular time to visit Riverhead with a wide range of events taking place throughout the town. These events include Halloween Fest in downtown Riverhead and the Hallockville Museum Farm Halloween Trunk-or-Treat.

Riverhead hosts a number of holiday fairs during the months of November and December including the Holiday Parade and Bonfire

Lodging in Riverhead

The town of Riverhead on the North Fork has a wide variety of hotel accommodations and lodging options.

Aqua by American Beech is a stunning beachside hotel on the Peconic Bay in Aquebogue. Newly renovated, this chic hotel offers a wide range of amenities including a sauna, firepit, and beach access as well as a variety of watersports like paddleboarding and kayaking. Their rooftop suite is truly a one-of-a-kind experience on the North Fork with a private deck and balcony with a private staircase that leads to the garden. 

Hotel Indigo Long Island is a pet-friendly IHG Hotel located just down the street from Tanger Outlets and Splish Splash. Guests will enjoy an onsite outdoor pool, fitness center, wood-burning fireplace and their onsite restaurant Bistro 72. Bistro 72 serves farm-to-table dishes and local wine pairings. The pool is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Onsite parking is available. 

Hyatt Place Long Island/East End is a pet friendly hotel with 100 spacious guest rooms located immediately next to the Long Island Aquarium. Amenities include complimentary breakfast, digital check in, free parking, pool, electric vehicle charging, fitness center, onsite restaurant, and much more. Their outdoor restaurant, Seaside Grill, serves lunch and dinner and is open seasonally from Memorial Day to mid-October. 

The Inn And Spa At East Wind is a luxurious hotel that offers rooms and suites with modern amenities. Amenities include an indoor pool, fitness center, and hair and makeup salon. In addition to a hotel, East Wind is a one-stop destination for a restful day on the North Fork. Visitors will discover a range of dining options, a spa, shops, and a carousel. 

The Preston House & Hotel is located directly across from the Long Island Aquarium and is centrally located in downtown Riverhead within an easy walking distance to nearby restaurants and shops. Amenities include an in room Lavazza espresso machine, turndown service, 24/7 fitness room, and access to an offsite indoor pool and seasonal outdoor pool. Their upscale restaurant serves dinner and weekend brunch year round. Onsite parking is available for guests of the hotel and restaurant.

Baron’s Cove, Sag Harbor

Salvatore Biundo is the owner of Italian eatery Centro Trattoria & Bar, the ultimate farm-to-fork Italian restaurant in Hampton Bays. Re-illuminating the cozy dining experience in the Hamptons is the grand patio deck.

Surrounding the lively dinner setting is an exquisite outdoor garden fountain and cozy fireplaces, both indoor and outdoor.

Rowdy Hall, East Hampton

Rowdy Hall, next to London Jewelers, boasts a wood-burning fireplace in the dining area with the signature logo head engraved on the mantle just above it. The rustic wooden tables surrounding the fireplace are the coziest of course, but the entire tavern warms up in the winter months making for a cozy meal. Enjoy some of their favorite dishes including their Chili, Butternut Squash Lasagna, and Fish & Chips, paired with their hot apple cider.

Cooperage Inn, Baiting Hollow

The Cooperage Inn on Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow at the gateway to the North Fork has a cozy fireplace inside their main dining room. Come warm up at any one of their tables inside that has ample access to the warmth of the fireplace. Their most popular dishes include their pot pies including the Lobster Pot Pie and Chicken Pot Pie.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week beginning at 11:30am.

East on Main, Mattituck

East on Main on Main Road in the heart of Mattituck has a cozy fireplace for guests located in their bar area. Customers may sit and enjoy drinks and dinner at the main bar or at any one of their tables nearby.

East on Main on the North Fork is well known for traditional, home cooked inspired fare as well as their signature cocktails. Notable cocktail choices include their Rum Punch, Tropical Margarita, and The Beach Bum. Dinner is served Wednesday-Sunday, and lunch is served on Sundays beginning at 12pm.

North Tavern, Wading River

North Tavern on North Country Road in Wading River is well known for its cozy fireplace in the main dining room for restaurant guests to enjoy during their visit. The rustic stone fireplace is at the center of the dining room and is often decorated for the holiday season with a beautiful large wreath with a red bow.

North Tavern is open for dinner Tuesday-Sunday beginning at 4pm. This North Fork restaurant is also well known for hosting private parties from business dinners to cocktail parties.

Sound Avenue Bistro, Riverhead

Sound Avenue Bistro in Riverhead has a fireplace inside for a cozy dining experience all winter long. This North Fork restaurant is well known for their freshly caught seafood, farm fresh produce, and delicious desserts.

Favorite dishes at Sound Avenue Bistro, according to the locals, are their French Onion Soup, Lobster and Shrimp Mac n Cheese, and Prime Rib Night on Friday nights. Bingo Night is also very popular at Sound Avenue Bistro.

Tweed’s, Riverhead

Tweed’s is located in the heart of historic downtown Riverhead on East Main Street. Tweed’s is considered to be the oldest continuing bar and restaurant in RIverhead and on the North Fork. The now restored restaurant even operated during the Prohibition era utilizing innovative and secretive methods for serving like dumbwaiters and hidden doors. Tweed’s also has a cozy fireplace for diners in their restaurant, close to a table for six.

Tweed’s Restaurant is famous for being open 365 days a year. Their most popular dish is anything made with bison. These choices include Bison Filet Mignon and Bison T-Bone.

Windamere, Mattituck

Windamere, located at Strong’s Water Club & Marina on Wickham Avenue in Mattituck, has a gorgeous white fireplace in their main dining room. This cozy fireplace in the heart of the North Fork is decorated with festive tinsel and a wreath for the holiday season. It also has a country chic wooden mantel.

Windamere is currently open for dinner Thursday through Sunday until 8pm. Lunch is served Friday and Saturday starting at 12pm, and on Sunday beginning at 11am. Dockage is also available for Windamere dinner guests. There is a 4-hour minimum stay.

Claude’s Restaurant at the Southampton Inn, Southampton

Claude’s Restaurant on the edge of Southampton Village is open daily and year round for breakfast, lunch and dinner beginning at 7am and is open until 11pm.Weekend brunch is served from 11am-2pm. Claude’s at Southampton Inn is also within easy walking distance of Southampton’s various shops for plenty of festive shopping experiences.

Guests may dine at Claude’s café on their spacious outdoor patio. Note that the courtyard patio is not covered and dining is weather permitting. Guests may also sit outside and enjoy a Hot Toddy or their favorite winter cocktail by the firepit.

Flora, Westhampton Beach

The gorgeous and popular Hamptons restaurant, Flora, offers a beautiful outdoor dining space. Their heated winter garden features private igloos for brunch, lunch and dinner. Igloos seat up to six guests. Reservation allotments are up to 90 minutes during lunch and up to two hours for brunch and dinner. Brunch is served exclusively on the weekends.

Fresno, East Hampton

Fresno is considered to be East Hampton’s best kept dining secret. This Hamptons’ favorite dining spot is located within a short walking distance from the East Hampton train station. It features a beautiful and spacious outdoor patio. The cozy outdoor patio features six space heaters and incredible lighting for mingling and reading the menu. There are two large, quiet filters allowing lots of air movement.

The restaurant features nightly dinner specials and menu highlights include spicy “buffalo” cauliflower with a creamy blue cheese vinaigrette and scallions; salmon tartare with jalapeños, scallions, and crispy homemade potato chips; slow braised beef short ribs with local red cabbage, white polenta and apple gremolata; and cazuela roasted local cod with dashi broth, wild mushrooms, baby bok choy, rice noodles and an Asan slaw. Fresno is also well known for their comfort-food inspired desserts.

Main Street Tavern, Amagansett

Main Street Tavern in the center of Amagansett Village offers daily happy hours from their classic and innovative beverage list. This Hamptons restaurant also serves 10pm bites for late-night indulgences.

Their outdoor garden dining space features heated seating at their cozy picnic tables. Their beer garden is also both indoors and outdoors. Favorites from their menu include the late-night Tavern Burger or the new Steamed Dumplings and Chicken Bites. T-Bar, Southampton

Topping Rose House, Bridgehampton

Topping Rose House at the corner of Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike offers extensive outdoor dining options all year round. During the winter months, their wrap-around verandah is heated with ample space heaters. In addition, guests may choose to enjoy a coffee or cocktail at their outdoor firepit in the garden.

American Beech, Greenport

American Beech is open for dinner Wednesday through Friday beginning at 5pm. Lunch and dinner are served Saturday and Sunday beginning at 12pm. Lunch is served from 12-3pm. Reservations for heated outdoor dining are encouraged.

Buoy One Seafood Restaurant and Bar, Riverhead

Buoy One Seafood Restaurant in Riverhead on West Main Street in Riverhead offers ample outdoor dining for the winter season. The restaurant features a clear tent that is completely heated, allowing for a warm and cozy outdoor dining experience for those visiting the North Fork.

Buoy One Restaurant is the original restaurant, with an additional East End location in Westhampton. The restaurant is open year round and is famous for their daily, freshly caught seafood, in addition to their seafood market. They are open seven days a week beginning at 11am.

Farm Country Kitchen, Riverhead

Farm Country Kitchen, located on West Main in Riverhead close to the downtown area, offers outdoor dining and seating during the winter months. The restaurant is nestled inside a colonial home on the banks of the Peconic River and creates a true essence of country North Fork dining. Favorite dishes include the Park Bench Salad, Bonfire Wrap and BBQ Shrimp, to name a few.

Farm Country Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner six days a week (closed Tuesdays) from 11:30am-9:30pm.

Main Road Biscuit Co., Jamesport

Main Road Biscuit Co. on Main Road in Jamesport offers plenty of comfort food favorites along with a covered outdoor courtyard with string lights and space to move around. Popular dishes for the winter include their biscuit sampler, Biscuit & Gravy, and their Oyster Fry.

Main Road Biscuit Co. is open seven days a week. Their hours are Monday through Thursday from 9am-3pm, and Friday through Sunday from 8am-4pm.

The Preston House & Hotel, Riverhead

The Preston House & Hotel, set in the heart of downtown Riverhead and directly across from the Long Island Aquarium, offers a spacious and cozy outdoor dining experience for the dinner guests. Their outdoor dining space features an enclosed porch with full air circulation and heaters so that diners can dine in a comfortable space while still enjoying some scenery.

Outdoor dining is also available under our pergola which has full heat lamps so it is not enclosed but remains very comfortable as guests tend to enjoy the ambience under it.

The Preston House is currently open Wednesday to Thursday from 4-9pm, Friday from 4-10pm, Saturdays from 11:30am to 10pm, and  Sundays from 11:30 AM to 9pm.

The Ram’s Head Inn, Shelter Island

The Ram’s Head Inn is a popular mainstay for visitors and locals on Shelter Island. Open year round, this iconic waterfront hotel and restaurant is once again offering their igloo outdoor dining experience in their spacious backyard. There are also plenty of lawn games and activities for friends and family to partake in.

The Ram’s Head Inn is open seven days a week for dinner. Reservations for their igloo dining experience are strongly encouraged. The restaurant is also hosting regular bingo nights, trivia nights, and live music. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday beginning at 11:30am. Windamere, Mattituck

Windamere on the waterfront in Mattituck offers a unique outdoor dining experience with private igloos. Their heated igloos can accommodate up to eight guests. 1760 Homestead Farm

1760 Homestead Farm on Sound Avenue in Riverhead offers a continuous supply of autumn baked goods. Their most famous pies include the grape pie, shoo fly pie and brownie pecan pie, a must for celebrating the fall season on the North Fork. Fall is pie season in fact! To note, they will be offering pie flights on select weekends up until Christmas.

Every Sunday from 12-4pm, 1760 Homestead Farm showcases farm produce through sauces, salads, and soups for take away or to enjoy in the picnic area.

Briermere Farms

At the gateway to your fall food tour of the North Fork is Briermere Farms on Sound Avenue in Riverhead. Brieremere’s is famous for their wide range of produce, flowers, apple cider, and baked goods, especially their pies.

Fall on the North Fork always means a visit to this farm stand! Popular pies to complement any autumn gathering include Cranberry-Pear, Peach Raspberry, Pumpkin, and Boysenberry. They also have a variety of cream pies such as Chocolate Cream, Cherry Cream, and Blueberry Cream. 

Please note that all sales and pick ups are done outside on the farmstand. 

Bayview Market & Farms

Discover plenty of local, fresh fruits and vegetables, and flowers at the local farm stand, Bayview Market & Farms off of Main Road in Riverhead. They sell fresh, locally grown produce through late fall with specialty items such as meats, dairy, and sauces that rotate throughout the season. 

This six-generation farm sells everything from potatoes, pumpkins, cauliflower, carrots, pears, turnips, and more. In addition, if you are in Calverton, Laurel, or Mattituck, you can stop by any one of their farm markets for a bounty of peak season fresh produce to take home for your autumn feast. 

Country View Farm Stand

Country View Farm Stand on Main Road in Southold is a must stop during your fall food tour of the North Fork. Their pies are baked fresh daily, and they also sell fresh brown eggs, Long Island duck, asparagus, and sugar snap peas. 

Pick up local vegetables at this third generation North Fork farm stand like cauliflower, hot peppers from Kevin’s pepper patch, as well as Claudia’s wide variety of local refrigerated soups like Indian Dal and Vegetable, and Ginger & Rice Noodle Soup. 

Hallock’s Cider Mill

This beloved North Fork farmers market, Hallock’s Cider Mill, is located on Main Road in Jamesport. They are a family owned country roadside market that has been a fixture on the East End for generations. Come stop in for all your fall food needs, including homemade pies, homemade jams, cheese, soups, chowders, their own local honey, gift baskets, their own farm fresh eggs, their famous crumb cake, and so much more. All in addition, most of their produce sold at the Cider Mill is organic.

Current hours are 9am-5pm seven days a week. Hallock’s Cider Mill closes for the season in December, and reopens usually in early May. 

Helen’s Flower Farm

A favorite for families during the autumn months is a visit to Helen’s Flower Farm in Riverhead. Located on Union Avenue, this interactive farm is a great spot to visit with the family for plenty of autumn family fun.

There to greet you is a pumpkin farm, corn maze, a wide variety of flowers, baked goods, and so much more. You can easily spend hours at Helen’s Flower Farm, exploring the maze and pumpkin patch, followed by shopping their baked goods, including their wide variety of freshly baked fruit pies. 

Their farmstand remains open until Thanksgiving Eve, and reopens in the spring. 

North Fork Roasting Company

North Fork Roasting Company is well known for their fall inspired coffee beverages. Exclusive for autumn is the Dirty Pumpkin Chai, Caramel Apple Latte, and of course the Pumpkin Spice Latte. 

Their chai is made in house by simmering whole milk with chai, cinnamon, nutmeg and honey. North Fork Roasting Company gives it a seasonal spin by adding our pumpkin purée with fall spices and then they make it dirty by pouring a shot of espresso in.

The Caramel Apple Latte is special thanks to their homemade apple caramel syrup. It’s just like taking a bite into a caramel apple and can be made with any of our alternative milks. Created by barista and shop manager Claudia La Du.

Lastly, the homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte is back for the fall season! This beloved harvest beverage is crafted with espresso, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, honey, and most importantly real pumpkins!

North Fork Roasting Co. on Main Road is open seven days a week from 7am-4pm. They have a sister store in Westhampton Beach on Main Street, open Thursday-Monday from 7am-4pm. 

North Fork Chocolate Company

An autumn destination staple for chocolates, gifts, and so much more is North Fork Chocolate Company off of Main Road in Aquebogue. All of their chocolates are made on the premises from scratch and make for the perfect local fall gift, straight from the North Fork!

Some additional great fall dessert options to try include their Belgian Liege Waffles. These are made fresh to order, and you can top yours with a variety of toppings. They also sell homemade ice cream, fudge, and individual sized gourmet desserts like Granny Apple Caramel Pie, and S’mores Pie.

Patty’s Berries and Bunches

This North Fork farmstand in Mattituck on Sound Avenue is a female-owned farmstand, offers a U-Pick visiting experience, as well as produce, flowers, and a variety of onsite activities. Discover many of your favorite autumn foods including seasonal ice cream, cider baked goods, jams, honey, and more. This is also the perfect stop for gorgeous floral bunches or ornamental pieces for your fall centerpiece table.  

Patty’s Berries and Bunches is currently open daily from 9am-6pm. They are also pet friendly, though to note that pets are not allowed in the picking rows. 

Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farms

Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farm in Baiting Hollow on Sound Avenue is perfect for visiting for the whole family to pick pumpkins and explore the fields, while shopping for fresh, local produce. You may also see a local food truck parking at the farm! The pumpkin picking field usually closes the last week of October before Halloween.

If you decide to visit just before the beginning of the autumn season on the North Fork, Rottkamp’s has a stunning sunflower maze to explore. The maze is usually open until mid September. 

Fall Food Guide to The Hamptons

The first signs of autumn in the Hamptons encompass fields of massive bright orange pumpkins on the vine, buckets of beautiful gourds in all shapes and sizes and stretches of apple orchards along both sides of Montauk Highway. Tate’s Bake Shop, Southampton

As a Hamptons staple known and praised around the world, Tate’s Bake Shop in Southampton Village sells even more than their signature crispy chocolate chip cookies. Come in to this popular bakery and take away some delicious sweet treats to enjoy during your visit and to take home for loved ones. 

Though of course their baked goods are perfect for any occasion, their autumn month selection really knows how to hit that sweet post.

Their Harvest Treats collection includes an Assorted Cookie Gift Pack (also available in gluten free), the Cozy Morning Breakfast Tray, the Best of Southampton that includes their scrumptious Chocolate Chip Pie. The Milk Pail, Water Mill

Looking for a farm stand in the Hamptons? The Milk Pail has three different locations open in the Hamptons for the fall season: the U-Pick Farm on Horsemill Lane, the Fresh Market on Montauk Highway, and the Farm Stand on Mecox Road, all in Water Mill. They are most famous for their wide variety of apples for apple picking in addition to pears, peaches, berries, and other produce. Their apples are available at the market well into the following summer. 

The U Pick Apple and Pumpkin farm is open seasonally Friday through Sunday and on holidays. The farm is a beautiful spot for photos!

Hank’s Pumpkintown, Water Mill

If you are looking for the ultimate fall family fun destination in the Hamptons, Hank’s Pumpkintown on Montauk Highway reigns supreme! It is the most popular pumpkin patch in the Hamptons, so get ready for some pumpkin picking. In addition to dozens of play places, a corn maze, and wagon rides, Hank’s has an onsite market that sells every fall treat you can imagine. These include Apple Cider Slushies, Roasted Corn, Cider Donuts, Fresh Baked Pies, Hand Dipped Candy and Caramel Apples, and so much more!

Mecox Dairy Farm, Bridgehampton

Mecox Dairy Farm is a very popular dairy family farm that sells a wide variety of cheeses and baked goods. This is a great place to stop if you happen to be celebrating the autumn season or holidays in the Hamptons. 

This farm raises local, farm-fresh, free-range turkeys at their farm in Bridgehampton. They have been doing so for more than 30 years. Turkeys can be pre-ordered on their website, mecoxbaydairy.com and customers will pick up their turkeys on Tuesday, November 23 or Wednesday, November 24 at their Farm Store. 

During turkey pickup days, the Farm Store will be fully stocked with other local seasonal treats as well as their usual farm-fresh products: artisan raw milk cheeses, grass-fed beef, and Berkshire pork. 

The Farm Store is self-serve and always open! They also have a local delivery service, Mecox Direct. They offer Friday home delivery between Southampton and Montauk.

Carissa’s Bakery, East Hampton

Carissa’s Bakery is located on Montauk Highway and on Newtown Lane in East Hampton as you are on your way to Amagansett. This Hamptons hotspot is most famous for their artisanal breads as well as their cakes and pies that are each a work of art.

Their Salty Pickled Rye Bread is a year round favorite, perfect for making sandwiches, avocado toast, and more. A great choice for fall is their Pain Au Raisin, available at each bakery. Other fall dishes include the Sourdough Waffles with toasted walnut syrup, and Shakshuka with roasted red peppers, tomatoes, a touch of harissa, and two poached eggs.

Balsam Farms, Amagansett

A popular destination for locals and visitors alike, Balsam Farms has a beautiful pumpkin patch for strolling through and of course those perfect picture moments. It is one of the finest fall farms in the Hamptons.

Balsam Farms is located on Town Lane and Windmill Lane in Amagansett. They also have a market in Montauk. During the autumn months, they sell 20 varieties of winter squash, 3 varieties of sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouting broccoli, sprouting cauliflower, several varieties of cabbage, brussel sprouts, 7 varieties of potatoes, carrots, 3 varieties of beets, over 20 varieties of herbs, and a wide variety of salad and sauté greens, pumpkin bread, other treats, and more! 

Balsam Farms is currently open for the fall season 7 days a week from 9am-6pm at their Amagansett Farm Stand (corner of Windmill and Town Lane), and their Montauk Market (662 Montauk Highway).

Round Swamp Farm, East Hampton and Bridgehampton

Ready to shop for gourmet food in the Hamptons? Round Swamp Farm is a very well known destination for Hamptonites and it is a must visit for those coming out to the East End.

Popular picks for fall include Lisa’s Cinnamon Rolls, Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies, as well as their wide variety of jams and sauces. Their brownie bites are also unbeatable! This is a perfect place to stop for some autumn treats and gifts to take home with you. 

Round Swamp Farm’s current fall hours are Wednesday-Saturday in East Hampton from 8am-6pm and Bridgehampton from 8:30am-6pm. They also have a market in Montauk. 

Sydney’s Taylor Made Cuisine, Westhampton

Their market menu has a wide variety of offerings for everyone’s tastes and interests. In particular for fall is their full service brunch that is served from 10am-2pm. 

Dishes that are perfect to enjoy in the autumn months are the Potato Onion Fromage (a baked egg dish topped with cheddar and gruyere cheese), and Banana Pancakes served with caramelized bananas. 

Fall desserts to try include pear tarts, pecan squares, and an apple spice cake. 

Current hours are as follows: open daily at 10am. Closes Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 5pm, and Friday and Saturday at 6pm.

Hampton Coffee Company, Water Mill, Southampton, and Westhampton

Indulge in all things autumn, and of course plenty of pumpkin goodies at Hampton Coffee Company. HCC has locations in Westhampton, Southampton, Water Mill and Montauk, in addition to Aquebogue on the North Fork. 

Pumpkin everything includes pumpkin muffins, pumpkin spice tea, caramel apple tea, pumpkin cold brew, and of course pumpkin spice lattes. Their coffee menu also includes Pumpkin Pie with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Amber Waves Farm, Amagansett

Amber Waves Farm is a 501(c)3 non-profit farm off of Montauk Highway in Amagansett. A perfect place to visit during the autumn months, customers still get to enjoy the farmer’s bounty without the crowds.

Did you know that out of the 350 varieties of vegetables grown at Amber Waves Farm, 90 are tomatoes! Be sure to pick up a bunch when you visit. Eggplant, squash, fennel, bok choy, kale, brussel sprouts, radishes, and so much more are found at the farm during the autumn season. 

Amber Waves Farm also has a sit-down cafe. Cafe customers may order online. The Amber Waves Farm market is currently open Sunday-Thursday from 8am-5pm, and Friday-Saturday from 8am-6pm. The cafe closes at 3pm and is closed on Thursdays.
