More than 22 U.S. military veterans die by suicide each day. To raise awareness about this tragic issue, the Southold American Legion Griswold Terry Glover Post 803 is hosting a 22-mile Walk4Valor, in association with the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation. Proceeds from the walk will go to the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation scholarship program which supports military families and veterans in crisis, and Veterans Moving Forward, which provides service dogs and canine therapy to veterans. The walk will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 23 at the Southold American Legion Post on Main Rd. with a send-off ceremony. Participants may select to walk the full 22-miles from Southold to Orient and back to the Southold Fire Department, for a celebratory welcome and BBQ; or walk 11 miles from Southold to the Orient Firehouse; or walk 5 miles to the Greenport Firehouse; or complete a virtual walk/run in a location of their choice.
