Falling into Fun: Autumn Adventures Await

Fall festivals are a cherished tradition, marking the arrival of autumn with a delightful blend of activities and flavors. These events often feature pumpkin picking, where families venture into pumpkin patches to select the perfect gourd for carving or decorating. Corn mazes, intricately designed and challenging to navigate, add an element of adventure to the festivities. And let’s not forget about the mouthwatering food offerings, from piping hot apple cider to savory corn on the cob and freshly baked apple pies. Fall festivals are a joyful celebration of the season’s bounty, bringing people together to revel in the crisp air and the vibrant colors of nature.

The Talmages of Baiting Hollow: Leaders in Long Island Agriculture Special Exhibit

Hallockville Museum Farm,  Riverhead
Exhibit open  until October 31st   |   Monday-Saturday 11a – 3p

The Talmages of Baiting Hollow: Leaders in Long Island Agriculture – a special exhibit at the Hallockville Museum Farm – opened September 1 and will run through October 31.  This exhibit explores the contributions of five generations of the Talmage family, including founding the Suffolk County Farm Bureau, bringing the Cornell Horticultural Research Center to Long Island, and pioneering overhead irrigation and bulk harvesting of potatoes.  The Talmages also started the first telephone company in Riverhead, led the effort to build Central Suffolk Hospital (now Peconic Bay Medical Center), and created the Friar’s Head Golf Club.   Special highlights include the first telephone in Riverhead and a circa-1900 shoo fly rocking horse – a marvelous piece of folk art – used by Henry Talmage as a young boy.

31ST ANNUAL HAMPTONS
INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Daily October 5th – October 12th

The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) takes place annually each October and is the premier film event on New York State’s East End. It is an intimate showcase of some of the year’s best offerings in contemporary cinema. Recently referred to as “Telluride East” by “Variety,” the publication cited HIFF as “one of America’s most glamorous displays of the best in cutting-edge cinema…and has grown a reputation for being able to read the Academy voting tea leaves and routinely promotes Oscar race front-runners but has also become the place to see emerging talent before they become marquee names.”
